About Us

Lake Cootharaba

LCSC is one of Australia’s most unique and finest sailing venues. The lake measures 10km by 5km, is totally landlocked, is surrounded on 3 sides by national parks and is part of the beautiful Noosa River system. Steady medium to fresh South-East trade winds and North-East sea breezes are the predominant winds during summer, providing some of the best flat water sailing conditions in the world.

Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club Inc

(LCSC, www.lcsc.org.au) is located at Boreen Point, 15 minutes north from one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations – Noosa – and within the beautiful Sunshine Coast tourist region.  The township of Boreen Point is a small village-like community with a popular historical pub, 2 take-away convenience stores, a large well-situated caravan park (100 metres from the sailing club), boat ramps, and other tourist oriented services.

A laid back, family oriented club, LCSC was founded in 1946 and with over 200 members is the largest Queensland Club operated solely by volunteers.  Situated on the shores of the lake, LCSC is the centrepiece of the Boreen Point community
.

The Club hosts regular club racing on Sundays and successfully hosts at least 6 large annual regattas, including the “All Boats Regatta” with up to 150 boats from NSW and Qld attending each year.  LCSC has also hosted National Championship events for the past 30 years.  Recent Nationals held at the Lake include the International Fireballs, Australian Lightweight Sharpies, International Moths, Hartley 16s, Minnows, Nacra Catamarans and Corsairs.  LCSC has also hosted the A-Class world titles and will be hosting the International Canoe class world titles.

LCSC has a bar, canteen balcony, large function hall, showers/toilets and disabled access (see www.lcsc.org.au).  Boat rigging and launching is straight off a sandy beach with a very short sail to the start line and sailing area, which is easily viewable from the club. Furthermore, the lake is large enough to give LCSC the ability to hold 2 separate full-size (1nm windward beat) courses at once when required.
